“Wait.” The word snapped like a line under strain. Alden stepped into the light, face gone thin and hungry. “You really found it.”

Rowan kept one hand on the lid. “You told me no one had.”

“No one had opened it,” Alden said. “Until now.” He lifted a crowbar from the wall. “We can be reasonable. Or you can leave with nothing.”

Greed made the room smaller. Rowan had seen storms gather faster, but not by much.
