
Inside the office, they wrapped both dogs in dry towels. The smaller one was ice cold but breathing; the older one curled around it again as soon as it could move.
Thomas crouched beside them, dripping rain onto the floor. “You’ve been through hell,” he whispered. The pup blinked up at him, shivering but defiant.
“We need a vet now,” one worker said. Thomas nodded, already on his phone. “I’ll take them myself.”
