The lights from the helicopter flickered, then died. The entire highway plunged into darkness except for the blue glow in Dan’s hands. The woman turned to him. “Drop it!”
He did—but it didn’t fall. It hovered inches above the puddled asphalt, spinning faster with every heartbeat.
“Back away,” she said, voice breaking for the first time.
Then the glow collapsed inward—followed by a shockwave that tore every sound out of the night.
